'More Generations Are Going to Relate to Her,' says Auliʻi Cravalho, as the 'Moana' universe grows with a live-action remake and sequel.

“Moana” voice actor Auli'i Cravalho spoke to Variety On the Carpet presented by DIRECTV on the Disney animated film becoming a franchise at her first SAG Awards.

The studio startled fans earlier this month by announcing that its “Moana” TV series would become a cinematic sequel premiering in November.

“It feels like the ‘Moana’ universe is expanding and I love that,” Cravalho told Variety's Angelique Jackson.

 I admire Moana's universal heroism.

 It redefined Disney princess.

Strong and fearless people can fight demigods. It seems great that more generations may relate to this character.”

Cravalho is an executive producer on a live-action remake of “Moana,” but she “could feel Mickey Mouse breathing down my neck” and couldn't discuss it.

Disney promises a “expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers” in “Moana 2”.

The wayfinding ancestors invite Moana to the remote seas of Oceania and into treacherous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike any she's ever had.

Dave Derrick Jr. is directing the sequel, featuring music by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina from the original film.
