'Kung Fu Panda 4' Previews Bring in $3.8 Million at the Box Office on Thursday

The animated film is expected to top the Oscar-weekend box office with a domestic opening of $50 million, boosting the animated family market.

Before launching nationwide Friday, Kung Fu Panda 4 grossed $3.8 million in Thursday previews starting at 2 p.m.

 In a success for DreamWorks, Universal, and the family market, the fourth picture in the franchise is expected to launch to more than $50 million over Oscar weekend.

Along with Black, Dustin Hoffman as Kung Fu teacher Shifu, James Hong as Po's adoptive father, Bryan Cranston as Li, and Ian McShane as Shifu's former student and archnemesis will return.

Viola Davis as a little lizard and shapeshifting sorceress and Awakawfina as a cunning thief Po needs to save their world are series newcomers.

Ke Huy Quan joins the franchise.
