How Jannik Sinner can stay ahead of Carlos Alcaraz as the unofficial No. 2 in the ATP Rankings

Sinner, the Australian Open champion, is in top form, having won 12 matches in 2024 and losing only two of his last 34 top-level matches,

, to Ben Shelton in Shanghai in October and Novak Djokovic in the ATP Finals in November.

After winning the Australian Open and Rotterdam Open,

the Italian rose to third in the ATP Rankings with 8,270 points after starting the year fourth behind Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev with 6,490 points.

But the 22-year-old has moved up to second place with the 2023 points drop, which is fantastic news before the Indian Wells Open.

The 2023 Tennis Garden semi-finalist Sinner drops 360 points while the incumbent champion Alcaraz drops 1,000.
