Hoda Kotb's Pre-Date Pump-Up Song and How She Stays True (Hint: 'Not Get a Salad') (Exclusive)

Hoda Kotb dates freely. On Friday at Hudson River Park Friends 8th Annual Playground Committee Luncheon in New York City,

the Today anchor, 59, told PEOPLE she doesn't want to put on airs while dating two years after her engagement to Joel Schiffman ended.

“You know? I decide to be myself before every date, she said. "I won't pretend. I'll skip the salad and eat regularly. Not my thing. I want to be myself so he knows me.”

She said she doesn't have a "hype-up process" before a date but "I normally drink a cocktail, maybe play music... 'Lil Boo Thang' usually puts me in a good mood I'll begin there and then leave.”

The journalist also said she had a third date “coming up” with a man co-host Jenna Bush Hager matched her up with, calling it her favorite way to meet potential suitors.

"A setup, 'cause that means somebody kind of knows you and kind of knows them," said. "I like that a little bit better than random person number three."

The mother of two advised returning daters, “If you sit in your house and order Domino's Pizza, you're not meeting anybody. Okay?”

“You got to just kind of go out, and who cares if it's a good day or a bad day, it doesn't even matter,” she said. Get out, learn, have fun, and be open. Just do it. One spin around the sun. Consider eating out with someone. They're paying—who cares? Go for it.”
