After filing for bankruptcy, Just For Laughs cancels 2024 and fires staff, blaming pandemic and inflation.

The organizers of Montreal's Just for Laughs festival, where many comics have been found, have canceled the 2024 event and filed for bankruptcy.

The moves, blamed on Covid and growing inflation, also laid off several other employees.

Multiple press reports suggest that 75 employees, or 70%, have left.

“We plan to maintain JPR’s operations, albeit in a scaled-down format, throughout the restructuring process,” Juste pour rire Inc. said.

Just for Laughs hosts events across Canada.

A Toronto event organized by different people is set to go forward in September.
